The house of Reps committee on governmental affairs said on Monday 21st may 2018 that about 1.493 Trillion revenue due to the government was not remitted by lottery operators in the country.
The chairman house committee on governmental affairs Hon. Dr Hussaini Suleiman Kangiwa during the investigative hearing in Abuja stated that the operators only remitted #7.6 billion within the last 11 years.
The Ag Executive Secretary of the national lottery trust fund (NLTF) Bello Maigari, told the panel that urgent actions should be taken or else the country will continue to lose billion of Naira.
"Nigeria's lottery industry is worth over 1.5 trillion which is the outstanding of the revenue lost. Records at our disposal indicate that cumulative returns to good causes from inception in 2005 to date stood at #7.6 billion only, representing an annul average of about #700 million.
"This is grossly inadequate and unacceptable to any discerning person and patriotic Nigerian, when carefully bench-marked against other African countries with far less potential," Maigari said.
appalled by the revelation, the committee chairman Kangiwa asked Director General of national lottery regulatory commission Lanre Gbajabiamila if the #7.6 billion remittance in 11 years was fair.
the house has consequently threatened lottery operators found culpable of non remittance of their dues with the withdrawal of their licenses.
