Today i will be sharing with you all a near death experience of a friend of mine (Ada Obi) who suffered an acute meningitis disease that almost made her give up, but thank God for his grace and the gift of family she is feeling like a professional basketballer that she is 😊😊😊😊😊.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the fluid and membranes (meninges) surrounding your brain and spinal cord. The swelling from meningitis typically triggers signs and symptoms such as headache, fever and a stiff neck.
According to Ada, it all started on the 8th of may 2019 when Tottenham FC had a UCL match, she struggled to watch the match thinking she was getting down with malaria. Thursday 9th came along and she was already feeling so down that the following day being Friday 10th, her mom had already bought two different analgesic because to Ada, the paracetamol was more like chalk and water added with malaria drugs that she was taking.
As early as Saturday morning, Ada was admitted in a specialist hospital and in her words "I looked like a dead shit". I guess she really was so down that she had no other words to describe her state.
The funny story here is that the specialist hospital couldn't help as well, they could not really get a hold of what was wrong. This is where some people will start thinking "have my village people come again". That wasn't the case for Ada as she was immediately taken to a private hospital when her brother who is a medical doctor advised after he was informed of Ada's state. This happened on Sunday 12th. The pain was so much that most of the time she thought her phone was radiating some kind of disturbance energy that added to her pain, she completely discarded her phone and even threated to fling her moms phone too.
Due to the severe pain, a CT scan was conducted to really check the extent to which the disease had gone so as to know the correct prescription and dosage that will be able to nurse Ada back to good health. Ada said "whoever tell you that death is easy, that's a lie". Am guessing this came from her because she really was at that point of giving up due to the pain from her brain and spinal cord. well thank God for family cos it was at the expertise of her brother who is a medical doctor that they discovered what Ada was going through.
After the discovery of her illness and the CT scan followed injections upon injections which were administered on her laps and butt coupled with tons of drugs that she was also taking. Ada that i know would do anything to avoid drugs but this case is different. At a time she even started asking if she will walk again if all the injection was given to her. she said this out of fear of the number of injections she had to take. The nurses all felt pity for but all she was thinking was how she will leave the hospital in good health cos "life is sweet abeg" in Ada's own words.
The pain was just so much for Ada that she claimed that all she wanted in that moment was just to die and end the suffering but then she remembered her other big bro who was supposed to come back by December and shower her with gifts and so much more. This was one thing that gave her some ghope and courage to always want to see the next day.
Ada will always tell her mom that she must see her big brother that is coming back soon. I guess this made her mom a little scared that anytime Ada closes her eyes her mom will start shouting telling her not to try that nonsense. Ada's mom felt that she was saying her last words not knowing that she was only passing through a lot of pain. Ada with a grin on her face said that all the experience of what she passed through cannot be recorded in one article as she cannot even tell them all.
Fast forward to where she was discharged. Although this happened, she was still taking intravenous injections with heavy tablets and she was also advised not to go outside and even if she did she should be escorted, no basketballs in fact the sickness was a threat.

Ada with the brother who saved her life
when she went back for medical check up, all the nurses were praising her, calling her beautiful names and they opined that she is a strong lady and her kind is rare that even as nurses they would not have withstood the pain and endure all those injections. Her complain about the specialist hospital was what got me thinking about the dilapidated standard of our Nigerian hospitals, i mean it took them close to 30 minutes to get her vein that was clearly visible which only took seconds in a private hospital.
Ada concluded her story by saying
"Once you are alive
thank God for life"
Ada with her mom.
